Gay marriage ban ending in England and Wales on Saturday

LONDON — Partners for nearly a decade, Sarah Keith and Emma Powell are moving next month from their native England to New York. But first, they have an important piece of business to take care of: their wedding.
“We’re quite calm about it,” Powell said Friday as she strolled the coastal streets of Brighton with 24 hours to go before “I do” time. “We’re not bridezillas.”
.England, too, has been quite calm about their wedding, even though it marks the sort of transformational moment that has both cheered and horrified people worldwide in recent years.
With the stroke of midnight, same-sex couples were, for the first time, permitted to marry in England and Wales, and many did in middle-of-the-night celebrations. The weddings united same-sex partners who have for a decade been allowed to form civil partnerships, but until now have been prohibited from tying the knot.

Top Ten Habits of highly effective people

There is one secret that almost every rich person knows. This secret is very important because it’s the reason they are rich in the first place. This big secret can be summed up in the words of the mighty Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

Arsenal keep City in check

Arsenal keep City in check

Manchester City squandered an opportunity to replace Chelsea at the Premier League summit after being held to a 1-1 draw by an improved Arsenal side on Saturday.

Arsenal's English midfielder Theo Walcott (C) is congratulated by team-mates after scoring a goal during the UEFA Champions League group F football match Marseille v. Arsenal on September 18, 2013 at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille, southern France. AFP PHOTOChelsea’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace meant that victory at the Emirates Stadium would have sent City top on goal difference, but they remain third after David Silva’s opener was cancelled out by Mathieu Flamini.
The day’s events mean that only five points now separate leaders Chelsea and fourth-place Arsenal, who produced a much more determined display after last weekend’s 6-0 demolition by Jose Mourinho’s side.

Parable of the fool and his money…

The other day, a friend narrated a story, which I found stranger than fiction; the story related to the travails of a family who lost a successful and illustrious breadwinner, who, incidentally, died without a Will. The family’s elders were consequently entrusted with the responsibility of efficiently managing the estate of the deceased.

The 10 Real Tips to Becoming a Billionaire like Dangote

I was recently called to approve of a very handsome advertising offer from the D. Group in a magazine I edit. It was really good money. I told the online magazine to politely reject the offer. It will be better we stay broke and poor than partake in his filthy wealth and lose our principles and dignity, I told them. On one condition can we accept to run his ads—if he promises to reduce the extortive price of cement for all Nigerians by just 20%, we will run his ads for free for him for one whole year.

Malaria and pregnancy, a dangerous twist

Malaria and pregnancy, a dangerous twist

“What if I get malaria while I am pregnant?” She asked. Don’t direct your thoughts in that direction, I answered. Actually, pregnancy makes you susceptible to malaria. Studies have suggested that if you get malaria while you are pregnant, your immunity level decreases.

pregnant womanI recall that six weeks into Julie’s pregnancy she had malaria. She never accessed treatment until it was discovered that the foetus was no longer breathing. Julie was induced and in the process it was discovered she had malaria. Unfortunately, it affected the foetus.
Malaria in pregnant women can lead to complications. These include jaundice, anaemia, haemorrhage, enlargement of the spleen, and kidney failure. If a pregnant woman has malaria, there is a greater risk of stillbirth, miscarriage, low birth weight babies and neonatal death. There is also a small risk of the baby being born with malaria.
Passing malaria to the unborn
It is possible but rare. Most babies remain unharmed but in very rare cases the baby can get the disease through the
